I collect CHILDREN'S BOOKS to pass on to children living in lower-income neighborhoods in Kokomo, IN to start & help build-up their very own home libraries!
3,100
BOOKS
DONATED TO CHILDREN
61% of low-income homes have ZERO BOOKS in them!!
Children who aren't reading at grade level by the end of third grade are FOUR TIMES as likely to DROP OUT of high school
Children don’t just need books; they need the right books. Providing children with “books that match their skill levels and their interests” is an important first step in encouraging voluntary reading

Reading is so very important & it absolutely needs to begin at home. Unfortunately, so many children live in homes without any books & their family lacks the means to get them. I started Meghan's Reading Buddies! to collect new & lightly used children's books to pass on to these children in our community to help start & build-up their home libraries! With outrageous book prices, it's a real struggle for families to purchase as many books as children truly need & WANT. By providing a large amount of books to choose from, they are more likely to enjoy them & continue into a life of reading!
The importance of a
home library!!
-
A child growing up in a home with at least 80 books will have greater literacy and numeracy in adulthood

-
A home library can promote reading and math skills more than college alone can

-
Growing up in a pro-learning home leads to a lifetime of knowledge-seeking
